State of the Citizen
A Light in the Political Darkness – A Citizen’s State of the State
- Wednesday, February 3, 2010
- 6:30 – 8:30 PM
- Michigan State Capitol, Lansing, MI
Come show Lansing that the light of liberty still burns brightly in the hearts of Michigan Patriots! While the political elite gather to listen to Governor Granholm share her view of the State of the State, Tea Party Patriots will gather outside to hear a Tea Party State of the State! Then we can surround the outside of the Capitol as a tribute to the 9-12 philosophy of We Surround Them.
Common Sense in Government will provide glow sticks. Please do not bring candles, as they drip wax that has to be cleaned up, but feel free to bring your own glow sticks! Hot Chocolate will be available.
Looking forward…
As we move into the new year, we have a lot of things going on and coming up. A new website layout is in the near future, with a lot more content and information to help you Make Lansing Listen. Check out our new events calendar with some of the exciting things we have coming up. On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, from 7:00 – 8:30 PM, we will have the first Michigan State Sovereignty Health Care Rally at the American Polish Cultural Center, 2975 E. Maple Road, Troy, MI 49083. You can find more info on that here. We are working on a few more of these around the state, so keep an eye on the calendar, or contact us if you are interested in holding one in your area.
We will also be hosting a Light in the Political Darkness- A Tea Party State of the State. This will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 6:30-8:30 PM at the State Capitol in Lansing. While the political elite gather to listen to Governor Granholm share her view of the State of the State, Tea Party Patriots will gather outside to hear a Tea Party State of the State! Following this we can surround the outside of the Capitol as a tribute to the 9-12 philosophy of We Surround Them.

$4 Million Taxpayer Giveaway to SEIU Legit?
Senator Jason Allen has introduced SB 731, which would take a shady, sneaky and probably illegal deal giving the sister organization of ACORN, SEIU, a $4 million dollar taxpayer giveaway and make it legal.
SB 731 deals with “The Quality Care Council”, which is set up through an “inter-local agreement” and charged with helping to protect Michigan Seniors from abuse. There is no legal authority to establish such a council. Allen’s SB 731 would give the Governor the power to legally hand over the $4 million to SEIU.
“Despite all the rationalizations about wanting to help Seniors, what the bill is really about is handing over $4 million of taxpayer money to the SEIU,” says Wendy Day, President of Common Sense in Government.
Senator Allen has told Common Sense in Government that he can’t seem to find any other way to protect the Senior Citizens of this State without the $4 million in cash for SEIU. He should try harder. Whatever rationalization he gives for the bill, it doesn’t justify handing over $4 million to the sister organization of ACORN.
“The Service Employees International Union has a clear history of pay-to-play activities in other states and I certainly hope that is not the case here. SEIU has demonstrated a record of intimidating dissenters around the country and Michigan legislators should think twice about giving this union more power in our state government,” said Kyle Olson, editor of Acorn Cracked.
Don’t Be a Sucker
Common Sense in Government, a non-partisan group working to change the political game in Lansing, is launching their Don’t Be a Sucker Campaign Thursday, October 29th at 8:30 a.m..
“We will be outside the Capitol handing out suckers and reminding Legislators that Taxes are not Treats,” says Wendy Day, President of Common Sense in Government, “We know that Governor Granholm is courting select Senators, trying to entice them to vote for increased taxes. We are working to make sure they don’t get sucked into her tax and spend schemes.”
Common Sense in Government was formed out of the Tea Party Movement in Michigan. President Wendy Day spoke at the April 15th Tea Party Rally in Lansing and coordinated the Tea Party Convention last Summer. Since then, she has been actively working to take on the political elite through Make Lansing Listen.
“We know these Legislators are under tremendous pressure from the Governor and from special interest groups like the MEA. We want to remind them that there are a lot of people out there who don’t agree with the Governor or the MEA and are counting on them to do the right thing,” Day says.
What is the right thing? It is working on true reform to limit government and lower taxes. Michigan families are suffering and don’t feel like they have a voice in Lansing. Until the politicians start listening, Common Sense will be there to lend a hand.
Where Have all the Cowboys Gone?
Read the Republican Reformation Here!
Ronald Regan knew how to lead. He was brave, true to his values, and uncompromising in his vision. Where are those leaders today?
We need leaders like this in Michigan to stand up against the radicals in Washington who want to throw away our Constitution.
We need leaders in Michigan who will bring us out of the darkness and into a new dawn of economic prosperity.
Michigan is a state worth fighting for. American is a country worth fighting for. Our Republic is slipping away right before our eyes. Do we have the leaders in Michigan to guard against the wolf at door? We hope so. But there are some in the Republican party who claim to be the guardians of liberty, but vote very differently.
These legislators work for you! They face pressure every day by special interest groups and lobby groups. It is time for We the People to put some pressure on them too. Instead of trying to just elect the “right” people, which is a noble goal, let’s change the political climate in Lansing so that even the wrong people will do the right thing. Let’s Make Lansing Listen!
