No Tax Hike Hall of Fame

In Fall 2009, CSG worked to make sure voters knew where their Legislators stood on increasing taxes. In their own words, they gave a commitment to not raise taxes. Here is what we did:

It’s no secret that the Michigan legislature is struggling to balance the budget. What is a secret is who from the Republican side of the aisle is planning to join Governor Granholm and Democrats in attempting to balance the budget on the backs of We the People.  We think  there are still some good guys out there who are willing to stand up for what is right, and we want to recognize them.  The “No Tax Hike” Hall of Fame is here to thank the legislators who say no to increasing taxes and fees, which always end up hurting the hard working families of Michigan, and to help us all hold them accountable.

Stated he will always vote “no” for tax and fee increases.

Green_KevinRep. Kevin Green – 77th District
When I asked if I could tell folks he would NOT raise taxes, his reply was, “Yes, and as the Minority Whip I will work to encourage my colleagues to do the same.”

Jones_RickRep. Rick Jones – 71st District
Talking about the budget on the Walt Sorg show at about 0722. AM 1320. Session at 10AM. This will be the day they do everything possible to raise your taxes. I will vote NO. Two years ago the Governor said if she raised taxes it would fix everything. Now it is even worse. When she ran for re-election she said no new taxes. Now they want to tax everything.

amash_justin1Rep. Justin Amash – 72nd District
“I will not support any tax hikes.”

rogers_billRep. Bill Rogers – 66th District
“I hope you know I will not be supporting tax increases to balance our state’s budget. We need to learn how to control state spending & start looking at true policy reforms that will bring jobs and families back to Michigan.”

Brown1Senator Cameron Brown – 16th District
“You can certainly add me to your list – I will NOT support any tax or fee increases. The time has long since past that we balance our state’s budget through downsizing and reforms. ”

Bishop1Senator Mike Bishop – 12th District
“Senate Republicans are Strong and United! We have an agreement to balance this budget without tax increases. We are executing that today and tomorrow. Wherever you are, encourage your legislator uphold this agreement. Cuts are tough, but tax increases are destructive.”
